I Am Sorry

Do you apologize to your children when you make a mistake?

I have found, in my now nearly 16 years of parenting, that "I'm sorry" is necessary quite often.  How else are my children going to understand that, while it's okay to make mistakes, you must take responsibility for them?

I love these three more than words can express.

I have such a short amount of time of influence before they become independent adults.

(18 years may seem like a long time but it will pass in the blink of an eye.)

I am going to mess up.  I am going to raise my voice.  I am going to overreact.  I am going to give consequences that don't necessarily fit the "crime".

However...

I also am going to pray for them every day.  I am going to be a part of their lives regardless of their choices - good or bad.  I am going to love them without condition.

And...I am going to, sometimes with great difficulty, utter the words "I'm sorry".

Proverbs 17:6 "Children's children are a crown to the aged,
and parents are the pride of their children."
