The Day I Added a Permanent Title

On April 19, 1997 I became a mommy.  15 years later, that title has shifted from mommy to mom, sometimes mum.  Since I can remember, I had wanted to have a baby.  I had no idea how much it would change me, forever.  My heart had been stolen by that 9 pound 3 ounce bundle of beauty, Sydney Ann.

Here I was, 24 years old, a new mom and a baby with colic.  I was certain that I had not asked for a baby that cried that much, day and night.  It seemed to last forever.  In all reality, it was only about four months.  Then, as if almost overnight, I had a smiley baby girl.  Her blue eyes were mesmerizing.  I would have been happy to just stare at her all day.

Fast forward 15 years...  I am now the mom of a beautiful young woman whose blue eyes can convey love or sometimes roll with dissatisfaction.  Those blue eyes will now be responsible for watching other drivers on the road.  They will eventually capture the heart of a boy.  They will show kindness and compassion to her family and friends.  

Sydney, you are my world!  We are so similar and yet you are so much of your own person.  You are beautiful and compassionate.  You have such a huge heart.  You and your smile can light up an entire room.  

The verse that I have chosen for you is Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

You are becoming more independent.  God will be with you even when I'm not.  If I'm being honest, that might may be more to make me feel better.

Best Friends and Bibles

In the past few years, our church has begun a tradition of giving the gift of a Bible to the second grade students.  I remember thinking during the first Bible presentation, "It is going to be such a long time before London receives her Bible."  I was so wrong.  The years have flown by and today, Pastor Jerry and our Worship Director, Darla presented London's Bible to her.  To make this moment even more special, she did this with her best friend, Ella.

We started our day with a best friend photo shoot!

We had lots of fun and then made our way to church where Pastor Jerry made the official presentations.  (Miss Darla even had it arranged so London and Ella would stand next to one another.  There is no one in this world quite like Miss Darla!)

London is having a sleepover with Mommy tonight since Daddy is out of town until tomorrow.  I put her to bed and told her to get right to sleep since it was a late night.  I peeked in and caught her "sneaking" to read her Bible.

London's favorite verse is Isaiah 40:8 

"The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever."

Amen little girl!

Bill and I chose a verse to write in the cover of her Bible.  Okay, it was supposed to be one verse.  But the whole text was so rich that I just couldn't stop at one.  Here is our prayer for our little girl:

Ephesians 3:16-21 

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever!  Amen!"
